On Thursday, April 11, Cebo Holland hosted its annual Safety Connect Day – a day dedicated entirely to safety. The focus went far beyond physical safety, such as wearing the right personal protective equipment. Social safety, mental well-being, and mutual awareness were equally central to the event.

The Safety Connect Day was designed with one clear objective: to increase safety awareness among all colleagues. Through interactive activities, engaging workshops, and inspiring conversations, the day emphasized collaboration, communication, and enjoyment – the essential foundations of a truly safe work environment.

All employees were divided into groups and participated in various sessions, each highlighting a different aspect of safety – from identifying risks in the workplace to openly discussing personal challenges.

A Powerful Story by René van Collem
One of the highlights of the day was a guest session by René van Collem, former drummer of the Dutch band Doe Maar, and now a well-known speaker and addiction recovery advocate. In his open and interactive session, René spoke about recognizing signs of addiction, the importance of starting a conversation, and how colleagues can support one another. His personal story left a lasting impression and emphasized the value of a workplace where we can be ourselves and take care of one another.

Innovation Meets Awareness
Technological innovation also played an important role. The Hazard Factory immersed participants in realistic safety scenarios using Virtual Reality. This interactive approach not only boosted engagement, but also accelerated learning compared to traditional methods. During a virtual tour through the company site and workshop, employees were challenged to identify unsafe situations and reflect on them afterwards – resulting in valuable insights and hands-on learning moments.

Social Safety on the Agenda
In the session using the Social Safety Dialogue Card, participants engaged in open discussions about (un)safe social dynamics in the workplace. By sharing personal experiences and confronting common “bad habits,” colleagues explored practical ways to create a more socially safe working environment.

Height Safety in Practice
The day was further enriched by a demonstration from the Height Safety Expert, who explained the importance of fall protection in the workplace. Participants experienced first-hand what it’s like to work with safety harnesses and learned what to look out for when working at heights.
